Credit Union comes to Harbour Place

A new service into Harbour Place is the North East Lincolnshire Credit Union. The centre has become a pay point for Credit Union, new accounts can be opened or existing customers can use Harbour Place to continue saving for Christmas.

The Civic Society Harvest

 In this, the month of morning mists and mellow fruitfulness, when vegetable gardeners throughout the land celebrate another years successful harvest, gathered in before the harsh realities of winter breathes it’s icy breath upon the soil, the Grimsby, Cleethorpes & District Civic Society joined in with the age old ways of the country by sharing their hard won bounty with the underprivileged of our great town.

Jenny gives Donna her certificates

One of our volunteers was rewarded for their volunteering efforts at a special presentation ceremony. Donna Booth has been volunteering with us since August 2008 and has achieved not only her 50 hour certificate but also her 100 hour certificate.

Client Trip to York

 

On Tuesday 9th June Tina and Julie were accompanied to York by 10 clients. It was an early start to the day with everyone arriving at the centre by 8.30am (even the staff got out of bed on time).

Phillipines Group Study Exchange 2009

 

Harbour Place had a special visitor, her name was Joselynn Manjares-Niñofranco (Joy to her friends) and she is a Social Worker from the Phillipines on a group student exchange organised by the Rotarians.

Artlandish visits Harbour Place

Artlandish is a community arts group that works throughout North East Lincolnshire. Over the past few years they have supported Harbour Place clients with several projects, the latest has been funded through Arts Development and is a mural based on the heritage of Grimsby.

Visit to New York City.

Whilst on holiday in New York City Councillor Malcolm Morland and I took some time out from sight seeing in Manhattan to find out more about New York’s Homeless problems.  Both of us have an interest in this issue through our work in North East Lincolnshire. We visited the Church of the Holy Apostle soup kitchen to get a feeling for the scale and extent of poverty and homelessness in NYC.   The church of the Holy Apostles is in the Chelsea area in Manhattan, an area undergoing gentrification: designer shops and new apartments at $6000 a month are replacing the working class meat packing industry of old.
