Harbour Place Day Centre has a team of dedicated volunteers who give up their time to help out at the day centre. Volunteering offers YOU the opportunity to gain experience in the caring sector as well as meeting new people and learning new skills.
A whole host of volunteer duties help to keep the wheels of the day centre rolling including: kitchen assistants, dining room assistants, cooks, receptionists and volunteers who can support clients with a friendly chat and listening ear. First class certificated training is offered to support the volunteers in their work in partnership with local training providers.
Harbour Place has a regular team of about 15 volunteers who generously give their time each week, to aid the smooth running of the Day Centre.
Quotes from the volunteering team include:
"I enjoy working with a variety of people and feel that the homeless face enough problems without the stereotyping and labelling that they receive."
"I get a great deal of satisfaction from volunteering."
"I enjoyed my time so much on my placement that I stayed on and volunteer two/three days a week. I enjoy interacting with people, treat everyone with respect and admiration, the time I spend here is very worthwhile."
"I have been a volunteer at the Centre for about a year, I have previously been involved with many other community activities in the town."
"I enjoy community work, talking to the clients and exchange views on a wide range of subjects."
"I have gained a great deal of satisfaction from volunteering and gained more confidence."
